VFW Post 11447: Minutes of March 2017 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Rogers called the meeting to order at 1002 hours, 8 MAR 2017. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Fifteen 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Nine Officers were present, 2 were absent (both excused).

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there was 1 recruit. Recruit DAVID A. TAITANO eligible based upon his service in IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN. He received the Combat Action Ribbon and served in the USMC reaching the rank of SSGT. Found to be eligible by the Review Committee. Comrade Burnett made a motion that Recruit Taitano be approved as a new member of Post 11447. Motion seconded by Comrade Corbin.. Motion carried. Welcome aboard David.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that the minutes were posted and placed on the website. Motion was made by the Adjutant to approve the minutes as posted. Seconded by Comrade Verville. Motion approved.


QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Verville, motion carried.

Canteen Fund shows being in the red again. This is normal for this time of the year as Business Permits, taxes and other items relating to renewing permits are paid. Taxes and city services (garbage, water etc) are higher this year. Permits should be issued in Mar and the Canteen will eventually get back into the profit margin.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Several members are not well. Currently Mike Best is at home, but going to Lourdes Hospital several times a month for chemotherapy. Dave Langan not doing well and Frank Hilliard still not 100%.

SURGEON'S REPORT: The Dental Outreach will be held in Brgy San Isidro, Subic., Aug/Sep timeframe.


PUP TENT 11: The Seam Squirrel reported that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH. Nominations were closed and election for officers for the 2017-18 term was held.


MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Picnic is being planned to be held at APO Family Resort on 4 Apr from 1000hrs to 1600hrs. . Now that we have children in 11th and 12th grades, they can probably help with watching and assisting the younger kids at events.

WEBSITE: Updates being made.

BEACH BASH: The Beach Bash was successful and a lot of fun. Financially it did well too, the Post made a profit of P186,604 or $3340. Thank you to all of the members who helped with the event and those members and guests that made donations and/or sponsorships.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Meeting was held, routine business discussed.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: Chairman gave the report for FEB visits. 43 members made 43 visits, saw 62 patients, spent 129 hours in visits and travel 1414 miles. Gifts $43, Total for Feb $3138.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P590 ($12).

Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

Nominations were held. Election will be held at the April meeting following second request for nominations.

For The Good Of The Order

FRA Fralics to be held 7-9 Apr in San Antonio. Golf Tournament on 7 Apr. Chili Cook-off on 8 Apr and Beauty Pageant on 9 Apr.

District meeting scheduled for 18 April in Bauang, La Union, VFW Post 9892.

8 Apr. The FOTH (Fraternal Order of the Teufel Hunden Devil Dogs) will be hosting a Bataan Death March Memorial.

DPA Convention 11-15 June at Subic Grand Harbour Hotel. SBMA.

9 Apr. Day of Valor, Submariners Birthday.

16 Apr. Easter Egg Hunt at FRA. Cooking of the eggs will begin at 0900 on 15 Apr.

Raffle tickets available at the VFW Post.

25 Apr. ANZAC Day, Clark Veterans Cemetery (RSL)

50/50 was won by Comrade Verville, who received P1025.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: The Charter was draped for departed Comrade James Duncan. Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 10:55. The next GMM will be held 12 Apr at 1000 hours.
