VFW Post 11447: Minutes of April 2016 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 14 APR 2016. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty-one Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Ten Officers were present, 1 absent..

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. There are applications for 25 new recruits. The names and qualifying service for the recruits was read to the members. All were found to be worthy of membership and approved by the members present.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes was posted on the bulletin board. Adjutant read the hi-lites of the minutes to the members. The Commander made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Wilson, motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Wilson, motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Life member Dennis L. Doty died on 7 Apr in Anchorage, AK. Dennis served in many positions with the Post, District and MOC. He served as Post and District 7 Cdr. One of the hardest working members this Post had over the years, putting in 8+ hours most days. Charter was draped.

SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach to be held in West Bajac Bajac in September.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: Meeting was held on 7 Apr. Officers were installed by MOC GRAND CDR Frank Hilliard.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: School fees will be paid in May and school supplies will also be distributed.

BEACH BASH COMMITTEE: Beach Bash did well, thank you to all who supported and assisted at the event.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Canteen doing okay for this time of year; however the heat seems to be keeping some members at home.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for MAR visits. 59 members made 41 visits to see 60 vets, spent 245 hours in visits, traveled 390 miles and gave $24 in gifts. Total credited for MAR was $6008.86

SEAM SQUIRREL REPORT: Lousy Scratch, Comrade Lee Vatter will be initiated into the Cooties at the next Scratch

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: -

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

Nominations for officers were open for any additional nominations/changes. After nominations were closed Post election was held. Only one position was contested, that of SVC, two nominations. Election was held by closed ballot and Comrade Niemela was elected as SVC. A special thank you to Comrade “Mario” Garcia who was filling the billet since it was vacated several months ago. The Adjutant casted a unanimous vote for the rest of the positions as none was contested.

The newly elected officers were installed by Past Dept Cdr Bob Zaher.

Motion was made by Comrade Niemela and seconded by Comrade Corbin to purchase a wreath for RSL ceremony not to exceed P2000. Motion voted on and approved.

The 2017 Convention may be held in Cambodia; Comrade Dave Niemela made a motion for the Post to bid for the CofA this Dec, seconded by Comrade Rowe. Approved by all members present at the meeting.

NEW BUSINESS

The Commander made a recommendation that the Post donate P5000 to the FRALICS. Comrade Rowe made a motion to approve the P5000 and make this a yearly donation and be entered in the next budget. Seconded by Comrade Corbin. Carried.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Please continue to sign up for Action Corps Weekly at www.vfw.org. "Blue Water Navy Bill" HR-969 has 292 co-sponsors and S-681 has 35 co-sponsors.

FRALICS were held Apr 15-17. Golf Tournament held on Apr 15th was very successful. The Chili Cook-off on 16 Apr was a lot of fun with a great ending. First, second and third place were won by Cooties, probably first time ever. First place won by Post 11447's MOC Pup Tent 11 (Kuripots); Second place by Post 2485, PT 15 (Mighty Pinatubo), and Third Place Post 9892, PT 7 (Kuto's).

VFW Dept of Pacific Convention will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand 5-9 June.

No more VA Outreach this year, they will be combined with Embassy Outreaches.

Bob Zaher gave a thank you to the Post and CDR Verville for their outstanding recruitment this year. During his 25 years with the VFW, he hasn’t seen an effort like this. He said the Dept Cdr wanted him to pass on his “Well Done”. Post 11447 is on its way to getting All-American this year, the first time. He also left 53 shirts at the Post to be sold with profit going to help the poor.

Fifty/fifty: was P2300, P1150 to the winner Scott Simms, who donated his share to the Relief Fund.

District 7 meeting in Bauang, La Union was well attended with five Post 11447 members in attendance.

A membership card was presented to new member Dave Langham, his membership was donated by comrades Dave Niemela and Dhan Wilson. Thank you Comrades.

Would like to say “Thank You” to the Philippine American Surviving Partner Support Club (PASPSC) for their P2000 donation.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:30. The next GMM will be held 11 MAY at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
