VFW Post 11447: Minutes of April 2018 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 11 APR 2018. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Thirteen members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Roll call was taken of officers, eight Officers were present, four absent of which 2 are excused.

NEW RECRUITS: Commander asked if there were any new recruits. No recruits.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: There were no guests at the meeting. Besides being Post members the following hold positions in department and other veterans’ organizations. Comrade Verville, SVC DPA; Comrade Schrauben, Cdr Post 4, American Legion; Comrade Simms, Secretary FRA 367 and Seam Squirrel PT11; Comrade Lee Vatter, Cdr FRA 367.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

The QM was not able to attend the meeting as he was on the road returning from a District 7 meeting. The figures are provided in the minutes for member’s information. They were not presented at the meeting. The Canteen Fund which has been in the red for a long time has finally gone black, hope it remains that way, however April customer participation has been low.

SURGEON'S REPORT: NTR

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: Comrade Niemela’s father is seriously ill, had surgery 10 Apr and a stint installed. Greg Langan and Ed Spears are both still confined to their homes. If you are in their area stop by and say hello.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Planning for a field trip in the near future, probably to a local resort.

WEBSITE: Updates ongoing.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: NTR

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: Chairman gave the report for Mar visits. 11 members made 5 visits, saw 5 patients at hospitals, spent 47 hours in visit and travel time, gifts/expenses $140 and travel 57 miles. Total: $1214

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P500 ($10).

Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

New Business

Ads for convention book need to be paid by 1 May (budgeted).

Nominations were completed and the election was held with the members voting to accept the nominees. New Officers were installed by Comrade Verville, they are: Don Robbins (Post Cmdr); Jim Rogers (SVC); Dave Niemela (JVC); Tom Burnett (QM); Nelson (Mario) Garcia (Surgeon); Dhan Wilson (Chaplain); Jerry Rowe (Judge Advocate); Bob Wright, Chris Schrauben, John Corbin (Trustees).

For The Good Of The Order

Comrade Joe Alvarado won the 50/50. Donated his share (P1525) to the Scholarship Kids program.

A memorial service was held for RSL President Albert Clifford at the Midnight Rambler on 11 April.

Buddy Poppy donations were P500.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:00. The next GMM will be held 9 MAY 2018 at 1000 hours.
