VFW Post 11447: Minutes of April 2019 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: The Commander called the meeting to order at 1002 hours, 10 APR 2019. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Nineteen members were present at the meeting.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Roll call was taken of officers; nine Officers were present, two absent, both excused.

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. The Adjutant reported that we have one new recruit, Romeo S. Nicolas, a 20 year Navy veteran, had Vietnam service. Recruit Nicolas is fully qualified for VFW membership. Recruited by DPA Cmdr. Mike Verville.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made for the minutes to be approved as posted by Comrade Rowe and seconded by Comrade Vatter. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: VFW DPA Cmdr. Verville was present.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

The QM gave his report.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: The Post must have its CSR reports up to date from 1 May 18 to 31 Apr 19. A minimum of 3 reports a month. Audits for each quarter must be turned into Dept QM by 31 April 19. The VFW CINC will be visiting the Philippines this month, will first go to POST 2485 then visit 11447on Good Friday, 19 Apr. (Note: The CINC visit was very successful with a large turnout). The Post must send a Delegate letter to National and DPA.

SURGEON'S REPORT: The Post will be coordinating with the local RSL to possibly joining them with their medical program this year.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: Comrades Langan, Ed Spears, Frank Hilliard still resting at home. Ed Spears was able to attend the Cootie Scratch earlier in the month. Frank Hilliard will probably be returning to the States for medical treatment this June.

PUP TENT 11: The PT elected new officers for the next year.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Planning for a field trip around FIL/AM Day (4th of Jul).

WEBSITE: Updates ongoing.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Canteen doing okay, but we need more member participation. Need to remove medical equipment from the office (action completed, items removed).

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: Chairman Wilson reported that 9 members made 27 visits and spent 100.5 hours in visits and travel 1477 miles. Total credit $2252.92

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P660 ($12.69).

Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

Nominations will reopen at next meeting and then closed and officers will be elected. Appointees will be made by the Commander within a week of election.

A motion was made by Comrade Wilson to donated the idled bell sitting in the meeting room be donated to the FRA for their use. Seconded by Comrade Corbin, motion approved.

A motion was made for DPA Commander Mike Verville to be elected as the Post’s Delegate for the Dept and National Conventions and seconded. He was elected to serve as the Delegate to both.

For The Good Of The Order

The 50/50 was P3900, P1950 to winner and P1950 to the Post.

The Department Convention will be held in June in Saipan. Check the DPA Website vfwdeptpacific.org for information and registering.

FIL/AM Friendship Day will be held on 6 JUL, venue to be determined. Raffle tickets will be sold.

FRA is also looking for Association members, these are people who would not normally be recruited as not being Navy, Coast Guard, or Marine veterans. See the Cmdr. Lee Vatter or other FRA Officers for info. 09292762424.

The Post won first place at the FRA Chili Cook-off.

Richard “Dynamite Dick” Haulet donated a helmet he wore in Vietnam to the Post, it was hung on the wall in the meeting room. Thank you Dick.

Carmen Mejo is looking for a replacement to take over the Scholarship Program. Anyone interested please contact her via the VFW or call the VFW at 09089958700. She has been running it about 20 years or more

FIL/AM DAY will be held on 6 July at Midnite Rambler. Raffle tickets are on sale at the VFW for P500 each, there are two prizes, First P75K, Second P25K.. Four hundred tickets are on sale. Drawing will be held at 1700H.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing was held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 10:59. The next GMM will be held 8 MAY 2019 at 1000 hours.
