VFW Post 11447: Minutes of August 2016 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES:Commander Rogers called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 10 AUG 2016. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twelve Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Seven Officers were present, 5 absent (3 were excused).

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there were no new recruits.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that the minutes were only finished yesterday. The minutes were typed in late July and were on my computer, but it crashed before I was able to print a copy. Then I had misplaced the July notes and found them the day before the meeting. The Adjutant read the minutes to the members and he made a motion that the minutes be approved as presented. Comrade Garrett seconded the motion. Minutes are on the Website.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Garrett, motion carried.

QM said that customer participation at the canteen has improved a little over what we had Apr-June. Things should improve as the rains come and temps drop. (Note: Customer participation had been slowly increasing, but this week’s rain has cause flooding and road closures, etc. and affecting customer participation).

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: NTR

SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach will be in Olongapo City, Barangay West Bajac-Bajac on 25 Sep.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: The Hungry Cootie reported that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH. Not much business was conducted as only 4 Shavetails were present.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Students with a grade average of less than 80 will not receive school supplies. Comrade Rowe will make a brochure about the program.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: There were 6 members at the PHC meeting held prior to the VFW meeting. The committee approved P2000 for air con repairs. Comrade Rowe said we need to advertise our beer prices more as we probably have the lowest prices in town. Discussed repairs to the counter behind the bar. Rotting wood needs to be replaced and a new counter top. Probably should replace the top of the bar also. Cost estimate is P5000 for the counter, bar top estimate not available at this time

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for July visits. 31 members made 25 visits to see 35 vets, spent 8 hours in visits, traveled 780 miles. Total credited for July was $2025.95.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P890 ($19.34)

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

The Post made All-American this year, the first time the Post won this reward. Thanks you to the Post membership who made this possible.

Comrade Larry Gray is having a birthday party at the VFW on 15 Aug. All members were invited to attend.

RSL Subic ”Long Tan Day” (Australian Vietnam Veterans Day) ceremony will be held at Arizona Hotel 18 Aug at 1400. A wreath will be provided by the local Vet organizations (AL, VFW, and FRA) the FRA will also do the 2 bell ceremony.

POW/MIA Day Ceremony will be held at the American Legion Post 4 on 16 Sep at 1300. There will be a pot luck meal, raffle tickets and 50/50.

NFL Flags are on sale at the VFW. Prize different this year, 50% will go to the winner of the Super Bowl and 25% to the losing team.

The Charter was draped to honor member Edmond Verville.

Fifty/fifty: was P1800, P900 to the winner CDR Rogers, who donated his share to the Scholarship Kids Fund. Thank you Commander.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 10:57. The next GMM will be held 14 Sep at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
