VFW Post 11447: Minutes of December 2015 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 4 DEC 2015. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Thirteen Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Nine Officers were present, 2 absent, SVC position vacant.

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander read the names of new recruits and reinstated/renewed members for November.

This was probably the best month we ever had in getting new Life Members (10) and (10) renewals/reinstated members. This was accomplished through the efforts of Cmdr Verville, Adj Burnett, and Chaplin Dhan Wilson (if I missed someone please let me know). Motion made to accept the new recruits and reinstated members as Post members. Seconded by Chaplain Wilson. Approved.


MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes were posted on the bulletin board and posted on our website. Copies were not sent to members via Email as Adjutant could not access the mailing list for the minutes. There were no changes to the minutes. The Adjutant made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Hilliard, motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster: QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Corbin, motion carried. The report is on file, see the QM if you would like to see the entire report.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: The Commander is the acting Servicer Officer. Two Funeral services were held on 14 Nov. One was held in Subic City and the other in Hermosa, Bataan. Departed Comrades were Dale C. Farley and Isidro Alcoreza. This was an all day event as the Subic service was in the morning and Bataan in the afternoon and a long ride between the two. Members from the Post and FRA Post 367 were in attendance.



PUP TENT 11: The PT will hold its meeting on 4 Dec. The PT participated in the annual Chili Cook-off at Bali Hai Resort in Bauang, LaUnion, sponsored by VFW Post 9892. The PT made an excellent Chili through the efforts of Cooties John Corbin and Tom Burnett, and their wives Aida Corbin and Tessie Burnett. They won 1st place in the competition between the participating PT’s and got the long lost “Great Blue Louse” back home in Barretto. The PT also took 3rd place overall in the event.


MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report (A/O 15 DEC)

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: This year’s field trip was held at Paradise Ranch followed by a Christmas party on 12 Dec at Mango’s. The children had a good time and there was a large turnout.


POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Still need more participation in the Daily and Weekly Draws.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for NOV visits. 46 members made 34 visits to see 64 vets, spent 154 hours in visits, traveled 1532 miles and gave $48.28 in gifts. Total credited for NOV was $3735

BEACH BASH: First meeting was held on 9 Nov. The venue will be at Mango’s on 5, 6 and 7 Feb. Still need a volunteer to be the Chairman.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P500 ($11).

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.


Nominations were reopened for SVC. There were none




Building Fund Blocks are still open for purchase of either a Silver or Gold Block. The cost for a Silver Block is P2500 and P5000 for a Gold Block. P110,000 raised to date. See the Commander or QM if you would like to purchase a block.

SUNSHINE Cart project still ongoing weekly at Bay Pointe hospital. If you would like to volunteer see the Commander. We meet at 7:30 pm on Fridays at the Out-Patient Dept on the second floor.

Please continue to sign up for Action Corps Weekly at "Blue Water Navy Bill" HR-969 HAS 286 co-sponsors and S-681 has 33 co-sponsors.

Canteen Christmas Party for the employees is on 20 DEC at the Canteen at 4pm.

Fifty/fifty: was P2100 and won by Mike Best who donated his share to the Scholarship Kids.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:15. The next GMM will be held 13 JAN at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
