OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 8 July. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Seventeen Post 11447 members were present.
ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Nine Officers were present, 5 absent (4 excused).
NEW RECRUITS: Antonio (Tony) J. Sanchez. Adjutant read application and made a motion for the members to approve the application, seconded by Comrade Corbin. Motion carried. Welcome aboard Tony.
DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: None
MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes were posted on the bulletin board and sent to members via email, also posted on our websites. There were no changes to the minutes. The Adjutant made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Best, motion carried.
QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:
QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as presented. Seconded by Comrade Best, motion carried. The report is on file, see the QM if you would like to see the entire report.
SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: There will be a burial service for Veteran F. Cava at 10:00 on 14 July at Clark Cemetery. (Note: Burial was held with eleven FRA/VFW members attending). Veteran Cava was not a member of any of the Veteran Organizations in the area.
The Commander said that he planning another "Survivor Package" seminar in August.
SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach will be held on 6 Sep, a Sunday. Six to 8 dentists will be there. Supplies for approx 200 people are available. It will be held at the Barangay hall in Barretto. Would like to see members there to assist or show their presence. Please wear a VFW hat and /or shirt.
COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: Comrade Marshall has returned to the States, still having problems with his back. He had been here for two weeks. Joe Hinson is back home and using a wheel chair; he had been admitted to the new Medical City in Clark. Comrade Frank Hilliard is at home, another attack of pneumonia.
PUP TENT 11: Seam Squirrel reported that they had a LOUSY Scratch and Swarm. The Swarm was attended by PT 11, 15 and 7 Cooties. Had a lousy time.
COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:
MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report. This report has been updated since the meeting.
The Department gave the Post a life membership. Instead of using it for one member, we got $400 to use as a recruiting tool in getting life members. We used $100 on a life membership for new member Tony Sanchez. Still have $300 available. Please see the Cdr or QM if you would like to go life or know someone who may like to join the VFW.
SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Some students had been dropped from the program due to bad grades. The number of students has been capped at 75.
POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: All 480 chips were accounted for during the monthly audit. A new stove for the back kitchen was purchases for P700. We're having problems getting Navy beans, if anyone is in the S&R (Angeles City) area maybe they could stop by and pick some up. Football flags are again on sale at the canteen. Flags cost P300 for half a team and P600 for the entire team. Following the season, the winner of the Super Bowl will receive 75% and the canteen 25%.
HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for JUNE visits. 26 members made 26 visits to see 81 vets, spent 75 hours in visits, traveled 304 miles and gave $32 in gifts. Total credited for JUNE was $1765. Commander said that the Sunshine Cart is doing well. The cart is used on Friday nights, starting at 7:30PM at Baypointe Hospital. We meet at the Out-Patient Dept (OPD) on the second floor. If you can spare an hour or two, it would be greatly appreciated.
BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P690 ($16).
VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.
FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER
FIL/AM Friendship Day on the 4th July. Venue was Mango's Resort. There was a good turn-out. The Post made P29,000 in raffle ticket sales and P11,000 in 50/50 sales. Also received cash donations. The sale of hotdogs and hamburgers went well. Would like to give a special thank you to John Corbin's wife Aida, Tom Burnett's wife Tessie and my wife Minda for their assistance in cooking and taking orders and collecting payment.
VFW Action Corp Weekly had article concerning the "Blue Water Navy" bill. The Senate version is Senate Bill S-681 with 15 co-sponsors and in the House, Bill HR 969.with 233 co-sponsors. You can sign up on the VFW website: www.vfw.org.
VFW Department Convention and Grand of Pacific Convention were well attended and the Post received many awards to include "All State", QM Tom Burnett was awarded DPA's "OUTSTANDING QUARTERMASTER 2015".
Fifty/fifty: 50/50 was won by the Commander who donated his share (P1450) to the Sunshine Cart. A total of P2900 was collected. Also, following the meeting Comrades Scott Simms (P1000) and James Harold (P500) made donations to support the Sunshine Cart. Thank you!
Beach Bash 2016: No one has accepted or been appointed to be the Chairperson for the event at this time. The first meeting will probably be held in Sep and be a "Brain Storming Session". More info to follow prior to the meeting.
