VFW Post 11447: Minutes of JUL 2018 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 11 JUL 2018. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twelve members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Roll call was taken of officers; nine Officers were present, three absent of which 3 are excused.

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. The Adjutant reported one new recruit. Ronald E. Littlefield, USN, served from DEC 1993 to DEC 2013. Awarded the Navy Expeditionary Medal and the Afghanistan service medal. His DD214 and application was reviewed by the Adjutant and found to be eligible for Life membership. Motion was made by the Adjutant to accept Comrade Littlefield as a member of the Post, seconded by Comrade Corbin. Approved by the members.

MINUTES:Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: DPA Commander Michael Verville, a Post member, addressed the meeting. Following his talk he read to the membership the names of the members he recruited near the end of the last terms. They are:

CDR Verville made a motion for the members to approve the new recruits for Post membership, Seconded by Comrade Niemela. Motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

The QM gave his report, which was audited by the Trustees prior to the meeting. The QM made the motion for the report to be approved as presented and audited. Seconded by Comrade Houle.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT:CDR Verville reported that District 7 training had been completed.

SURGEON'S REPORT: NTR

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS:CDR Robbins along with Comrades Wilson and Niemela presented a $500 check to Greg Langan donated by the DPA.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:Scholarship children were invited to the 4th of July Fil/Am party. Rain kept the numbers down, but those who attended had a good time.

WEBSITE: Updates ongoing.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: NTR

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS:Waiting for the report of the engineers on what we have to remove or relocate to be ready for the ongoing widening of the National Highway. Worst case is that we might have to tear down our front wall and move it back into the canteen front area. Also the patio and its roof will have to go.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN:Buddy Poppy donations were P350.

Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: NTR

New Business

The VFW National HQ provided DPA with a request for the Posts in DPA to support the VFW Emergency Relief Fund. The VFW has deleted funds available for emergencies around the globe. They are requesting donations for the fund from posts and members around the world. Funds can come from the Post Relief Fund or donations. Motion was made by CDR Robbins and seconded by Comrade Corbin for the Post to send $50 from the Relief Fund. Motion approved by the members.

For The Good Of The Order

The Post was awarded All-State Post for 2017-18, we were also in the running for All-American, placing number 65 out of over 2000 posts.

The 50/50 was P3240, P1620 to Comrade Niemela and P1620 to the Post.

Charter was draped in memory of Comrade David “Diamond” Field.

CLOSING CEREMONIES:Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 10:56. The next GMM will be held 8 August 2018 at 1000 hours.
