VFW Post 11447: Minutes of June 2015 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1002 hours, 10 June. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Fifteen Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Ten Officers were present, 4 absent (2 excused).

NEW RECRUITS: Wunderly, Samuel. Adjutant read application and made a motion for the members to approve the application, seconded by Comrade Hilliard. Motion carried. Welcome aboard Sam.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: None

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes were posted on the bulletin board and sent to members via email, also posted on our websites. There were no changes to the minutes. The Adjutant made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Best, motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as presented. Seconded by Comrade Hilliard, motion carried. The report is on file, see the QM if you would like to see the entire report.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Charter to be undraped following the meeting. Charter was draped last month in memory of Comrade Sturges.

SURGEON'S REPORT: Date of Dental Outreach is unknown at this time, but it will be held in Barretto this year. Medical City Clark is now open for business.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: Seam Squirrel reported that they had a LOUSY Scratch!

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report. This report has been updated since the meeting.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: School fees for registration of students has been paid, P20,000 ($455). School supplies were purchased and given to the children, cost $591. There are 75 students in the program.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: The Canteen staff is learning how to make soups, lumpia and S.O.S. We have a cooking area in the back room now.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR Verville gave the report for MAY visits. 49 members made 37 visits to see 73 vets, spent 146 hours in visits, traveled 1422 miles and gave $180 in gifts. Total credited for MAY was $3489.41. Commander said that the Sunshine Cart is doing well. The cart is used on Friday nights, starting at 7:30PM at Baypointe Hospital. We meet at the Out-Patient Dept (OPD) on the second floor. My thanks to Mike Best and Mario Nelson for their support over the last few weeks. If you can spare an hour or two, it would be greatly appreciated.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P710 ($16).

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

FIL/AM Friendship Day on the 4th July. Venue will be Mango’s Resort starting around noon. Raffle tickets are on sale at the Canteen and will also be sold at the event. P250 for a book of 11.

We will have a District 7 meeting on 3 July, at 10AM (officer call 9:30). There will be a Cootie Swarm following the meeting.

Six awards were submitted by the Commander for consideration by Department. Outstanding Non-member Post Supporter; Outstanding Support Group; Outstanding Post Member; QM; Adj; and Outstanding Post. (at the Convention QM Burnett was awarded a plaque as Dept of Pacific Outstanding QM).

FMP will be here in 4-6 months, you will have to pay up front for medical services and submit claims for reimbursement.

VFW Action Corp Weekly had article concerning the “Blue Water Navy” bill. The Senate version is Senate Bill S-681 and in the House, Bill HR 969.

Cooties Fund Raiser. If you have any pins that you no longer want, please give them to Comrade Rowe or leave at the bar for him.. These pins will be raffle off, probably at the Fil/Am event. Do not give any pins that were earned, i.e. award for membership, etc.

Fifty/fifty: 50/50 was won by Comrade Houle who donated his share (P1250) to the Scholarship fund. A total of P2500 was collected. Thank you Dave.

American Legion Post 4 meeting on 12 Jul at 1300.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 1059. The next GMM will be held 8 Jul at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
