VFW Post 11447: Minutes of March 2015 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 11 MAR. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty Four Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Ten Officers were present and two absent, one excused.

NEW RECRUITS: None

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: None

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes were posted on the bulletin board and sent to members via email, also posted on our websites. The Adjutant made the motion to accept the minutes as posted, seconded by Comrade Corbin, motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by JVC Best, motion carried. The report is on file, see the QM if you would like to see the entire report.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Comrade “Chico” Miranda died 6Mar. Funeral scheduled for Thur, 12 Mar. JVC Mike Best said he has cancer.

SURGEON'S REPORT: NTR

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: Seam Squirrel reported that they had a LOUSY Scratch! Election for new Shavetails (Officers) was held. Elected Shavetails were installed by Grand SVC Hilliard.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report. This report has been updated since the meeting. Need assistance from members to renew or find new recruits.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: NTR

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Inventories were completed. The Post Canteen is doing well, able to pay all bills and still had funds available at the end of the month. Would like to see more membership participation at the Canteen. The menu is always changing and improving. We now have SM Light beer on tap.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR Verville gave the report for Feb visits. 36 members made 36 visits to see 178 vets, spent 134 hours in visits, traveled 1470 miles and gave $17.64 in gifts. Total credited for Feb was $3143.20.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P810 ($19).

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

UNFINISHED BUSINESS:

At the last meeting, a motion to provide a donation not to exceed P1500 to assist the Barangay in doing road repairs was approved. Peso 1500 was given to the Barangay.

NEW BUSINESS

The PHC at its meeting voted to bring a motion to the members for a new freezer and chiller. The motion to purchase a new freezer, not to exceed P25k was made by Comrade Best and seconded by Comrade Yu. Motion carried. SVC made the motion for the Post to purchase a new Chiller, price not to exceed P22k seconded by the QM. Motion carried.

FOR THE GOOD OF THE ORDER

Charter was draped in memory of Post member “Chico” Miranda.

Fifty/fifty: The 50/50 was won by Comrade Corbin who donated his share (P1500) to the Relief Fund. A total of P3000 was collected. Thank you John.

Calendar of Events:

Cootie Scratch at 1400, 2 April.

FRA FRALICS to be held 10-12 April with the Chili Cook-off on 11 April.

District 7 Convention will be held at VFW Post 9892 in Bauang, La Union on 15 Apr.

American Legion Post 4 meeting on 11 April at 1300.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 1058 hours. The next GMM will be held 8 April at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
