VFW Post 11447: Minutes of March 2019 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES:The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 13 MAR 2019. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty one members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:Roll call was taken of officers; nine Officers were present, two absent, both excused.

NEW RECRUITS:The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. The Adjutant said that we have one VFW member who wants to transfer to our Post. His name is Neal McAuliffe, currently a member at Post 2485, those of you who attend burials at Clark may know him, he assists with the burial requests and service. I make a motion to approve his transfer, seconded by Comrade Corbin. Motion approved.

MINUTES:Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded by Comrade Niemela. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS:VFW DPA Roving Ambassador and candidate for DPA JVC Kevin Mitchell.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT:NTR-S.O. in Washington, D.C.

SURGEON'S REPORT:The Post will be coordinating with the local RSL to join with them in conducting a Dental Outreach this year.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS:Comrades Langan, Ed Spears, Frank Hilliard still resting at home. Comrade Dhan Wilson has health problem, but able to get around.

PUP TENT 11:We had a LOUSY SCRATCH; Cootie Kevin Mitchell attended the Scratch. Nominations’ were taken for the officer positions of the PT. Nominations will close at next Scratch and elections will be held. Comrade Mitchell spoke to the Cooties, and ask for support in his bid for JVC this year. A pledge of P5000 to the RAO sponsored Vietnam Veterans Memorial Day at Arizona Resort on 29 MAR at 11 AM to 1 PM was approved by the PT.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:The program received a donation from Comrade Sorensen of $500. Thank you Chief!

WEBSITE:Updates ongoing.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE:The Canteen will review menu and drink prices to see if they need to be changed. Canteen doing okay, but we need more member participation.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS:Chairman Wilson reported that 12 members made 21 visits and spent 2000 hours in visits and travel.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN:Buddy Poppy donations were P480 ($9.23).

Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children

Unfinished Business

Last month minutes reported that the Golf Tournament earned $1923 for the Post and $1577 from shirt sales and 50/50 draws. Additional funds received from the Beach Bash Sponsors was $1872. Total of $5449. Expenses such as shirts, stage set-up and take down, transportation and others came to $1164 for a profit of $4285. Thank you to all for your assistance, time and donations.

New Business

None

For The Good Of The Order

The 50/50 was P4770, P2385 to Kevin Mitchell and P2385 to the Post. Comrade Mitchell donated his share to the Post. Thank you Kevin.

The Department Convention will be held in June in Saipan. Check the DPA Website vfwdeptpacific.org for information and registering.

FIL/AM Friendship Day will be held on 6 JUL, venue to be determined. Raffle tickets will be sold.

Nominations will be held next month for the election of Post Officers.

The Commander received a letter from the VFW Commander in Chief Lawrence thanking VFW member Michael Verville for his recruiting efforts and presented a 25 Membership Coin.

ANZAC DAY sponsored by the RSL will be held on the 25th of April at Treasure Island Resort, Baloy Beach.

FRA Easter egg hunt will be held on 21 Apr. Need help from children and adults on the 20th to dye the eggs.

FRA is also looking for Association members, these are people who would not normally be recruited as not being Navy, Coast Guard, or Marine veterans. See the Cmdr. Lee Vatter or other FRA Officers for info. 09292762424.

CLOSING CEREMONIES:Closing was held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:10. The next GMM will be held 10 APR 2019 at 1000 hours.
