VFW Post 11447: Minutes of May 2016 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Verville called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 11 MAY 2016. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Sixteen Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Eight Officers were present, 4 absent (3 were excused).

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. There are applications for 3 new life members. The names and qualifying service for the recruits was read to the members. All were found to be worthy of membership and approved by the members present.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that a copy of the minutes was posted on the bulletin board. There were no changes to the minutes. The Adjutant made a motion for the minutes to be approved as posted, seconded by Comrade Best. Motion carried.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Best, motion carried.

QM said that customer participation at the canteen last month nearly non-existent, probably due to the heat with outside temps in the high 90’s. Afternoon and evening customers was usually less than 10. Things should improve when the rains come and temps drop.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: NTR

SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach will be in West Bajac Bajac.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: School fees were paid and school supplies were purchased. Registration paid was p23000 ($500) and P10,000 for supplies. Thank you to all the members who donated funds to the fund over the last year. Comrade Don Robbins accepted responsibility for two of Comrade Doty’s kids and paid their fees for the year. Thank you Don.

BEACH BASH COMMITTEE: Canteen doing okay for this time of year; however the heat seems to be keeping some members at home. May is the start of the wet season and temps should drop a little.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Canteen doing okay for this time of year; however the heat seems to be keeping some members at home.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for APR visits. 33 members made 29 visits to see 69 vets, spent 131 hours in visits, traveled 1392 miles and gave $42 in gifts. Total credited for APR was $3191.53

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P340

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

NEW BUSINESS

A motion was made by the QM for the membership to elect delegates for the Convention and approve delegate fees. Seconded by Comrade Corbin. The Post Commander and 7 members were nominated as delegates. Post Commander was approved as Chief Delegate. Delegate fees are on the budget but if more than approved will be covered by this motion. Motion approved by majority of members present.

Due to the Convention, many members will not be in area for the GMM on 8 Jun. A motion was made by Comrade Best and seconded by Ed Spears to move the meeting to 15 Jun. Motion approved by majority.

VFW Dept of Pacific Convention will be held in Chiang Mai, Thailand 5-9 June.

The charter was undraped. Was draped last month for Comrade Doty.

Fifty/fifty: was P2150, P1075 to the winner Comrade Best, who donated his share to the Scholarship Kids Fund. Thank you Mike.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:10. The next GMM will be held 15 JUN at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
