VFW Post 11447: Minutes of November 2018 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES:The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 14 NOV 2018. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Thirteen members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:Roll call was taken of officers; six Officers were present, five absent, 3 excused (Wright, Corbin, Verville).

NEW RECRUITS:The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. The Adjutant reported two (2) new recruits.

Both are qualify for membership in our Post. Adj made the motion for both members to be approved for membership, seconded by Dave Niemela. Motion approved.

MINUTES:Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded by Comrade Vatter. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS:None.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

The QM gave his report.. The QM made the motion for the report to be approved as presented. Seconded by Comrade Houle. Motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT:NTR

SURGEON'S REPORT:Still looking for a Barangay or town for the Dental Outreach to be held. Comrade Houle will take over the Dental Outreach this year.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS:Comrades Greg Langhan and Ed Spears resting at home. Walter Smith still undergoing Chemotherapy for Cancer in the states. Frank Hilliard still having problems, John Corbin has been hospitalized with bladder problems. Had surgery on 18 Nov, doing okay.

PUP TENT 11:District 7 Councilman Tom Aldrich was present at the Scratch and he reported that the Grand Bug would attend the next Scratch which will be a combined Scratch with both PT11 and 15 attending at Post 2485 on 6 DEC.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:Students are in school. A child can be sponsor by a member for P1000 a year, this will help pay for their annual trip and school supplies. A Christmas present sign up list has been posted on the VFW Bulletin Board. The cost is P300 per child.

WEBSITE:Updates ongoing.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE:A/C repairs ongoing.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS:The Adjutant forgot to bring the report to the meeting. Told the Cmdr and members that he would put it in the minutes. Here it is: 19 VFW members made 15 visits, saw 12 Vets, (0 burials, 5 home visits, and 10 hosp visits), spent 56 hours in visits/travel, and travel 364 miles. Total: $1413.76

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN:Buddy Poppy donations were P590 ($11.13).

For The Good Of The Order

The 50/50 was P3250, P1625 to Jim Rogers and P1625 to the Post.

The Silver (P2500) and Gold (P5000) wall plates are still on sale.

The Post donated from the Relief Fund, $500 to the DPA Emergency Fund to assist veterans and Posts in the Guam/Saipan area who were hit by a typhoon. National will match the Department Emergency Fund.

The Commander read a letter from National thanking him and the Post for achieving over 100% in membership this year. With the letter a streamer was enclosed for the Post to put on their flag staff. Because the Post reached 100% before 1 Jun 2019, we are eligible to win a drawing for $1000 stipend (expense check) toward attending the 120th VFW National Convention in Orlando, FL. The Commander also presented a 5 member pin to the Adjutant for recruiting 5 members this year

The Post received approximately $13,000 in medicines and medical equipment from a MSC ship visiting Subic. The medicines were still good but approaching end of shelf life. The equipment and medicines were given to local clinics/hospitals.

Beach Bash 2019. The BB will be held at the Midnite Rambler in Brgy Barretto in Feb. The following members/guests will host the special events: Golf Chairman-James “JIMBO” Correll; Darts-Billy; BB shirts-Jerry Rowe; Beauty Contest-Dave Fisher.

The Department Convention will be held at the Oasis Hotel in Angeles City, 7-9 DEC. You can sign up to register for the convention and make hotel reservations on the DPA website.

CLOSING CEREMONIES:Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 10:45. The next GMM will be held 12 DEC 2018 at 1000 hours.
