VFW Post 11447: Minutes of October 2016 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Rogers called the meeting to order at 1004 hours, 12 OCT 2016. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Eight Officers were present, 4 absent (4 were excused).

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there were two new recruits. New members are Jesse C. Green, served in the U.S. Navy, Vietnam veteran and Leigh N. Laney, U.S. Navy, Vietnam veteran. Both are fully qualified for membership in the VFW. Adjutant made a motion for both recruits to be approved by the members for membership in the VFW. Both members if approved will become life members. Motion seconded by Comrade Rowe. Motion approved by majority of members present. Welcome aboard Jesse and Leigh.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that the minutes were posted and put on the website. Two changes have been made, Comrade Hilliard had spine surgery not hip surgery and for Hospital report I wrote that the Commander gave the report and it was changed to Hospital Chairman gave the report. Adjutant made the motion for the minutes to be approved as posted and changed. Second by Comrade Rowe. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: No guests

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Rowe, motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: DPA Veterans Assistance Committee can donate grants up to $500 to eligible vets needing assistance.

SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach will be in Olongapo City, Barangay West Bajac-Bajac. The outreach will be Oct 22.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: The Hungry Cootie reported that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH. But fun was had by all of the Lousy Coots.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM: Christmas party may be held at “By the Sea Resort”, Looking for a venue for the field trip this year.

WEBSITE: Final Roll Call has been updated.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: PHC Chairman absent, Commander called the Committee to order. Discussed the septic tank which was the source of the recent flooding in the office and meeting area. QM gave his report to the Committee. Even with the rain, Canteen participation is up, mainly due to football season.members.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: Chairman gave the report for Sep visits. 53 members made 46 visits, spent 198 hours in visits, traveled 1912 miles. Total credited for SEP was $4628.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P570 ($12.39)

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

NEW BUSINESS

To help lower the cost for individuals to ride the bus to the Chili Cook Off (CCO) in LaUnion, it was recommended during the FRA meeting that the FRA, VFW and AL donate some funds towards the bus cost. The FRA will donate and so will the AL. Comrade Rowe made a motion for the VFW to donate P2500 towards cost of the bus. Motion seconded by Comrade Corbin. Motion approved.

Ceremony at McArthur’s landing site in Leyte will be held on Oct 20.

District 7 meeting will be held on 10Nov at VFW Post 2485 in Angeles City. Officer call at 0930 and meeting at 1000. Nov 10th is also the USMC birthday.

Veterans Day Ceremony will be held at Clark Cemetery at 1100 on the 11th of Nov. If you attend please wear your VFW shirt if you have one and cap.

Employee of the year was presented to Jessica Fuertes for a job well done. She was given a plaque and pay raise.

American Legion Post 4 President Chris Schrauben gave the QM P2000 to be used for CCO expenses.

Sandy presented a model replica of the USS ARIZONA to Jack Walker, the RAO Director. He also talked about his fleet of ship models and upcoming donations and events.

Jim Goodman was appointed as Public Affairs Officer for the VFW. He will start up a Face book page for PAO articles.

50/50 was won by Comrade “Mario” Garcia which was used to help pay for his upgrading of membership to Life Member.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:10. The Charter was draped for departed Comrade Paul Griffey. The next GMM will be held 9 NOV at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
