VFW Post 11447: Minutes of October 2017 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES:The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 11 OCT 2017. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Seventeen 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS:Roll call was taken of officers, eleven Officers were present.

NEW RECRUITS:The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there were six new recruits:

NOVALES, Mariano M., USN, Vietnam service, 20 years active duty. Life member.

LICARDO, Daniel C., USN, Desert Storm, 4 years service, Life member.

FONTILLAS, Roland F., USN, Vietnam service, 30 years service, Life member.

GALVEZ, Vincent, USN, Vietnam service, 26 years service, Life member.

HERRERA, Anastacio Y., USMC, Vietnam service, 21 years service, Life member.

HAULET, Eric E., reinstated member, applying for Life membership.

All recruits meet membership requirements and are eligible for membership. Adjutant made the motion that membership requests be approved, seconded by Comrade Corbin, motion carried.

MINUTES:Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that the minutes were posted and emailed to members. No changes were made. Motion was made by the Adjutant for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded by Comrade Corbin. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS:DPA District 7 Commander Charles Spain attended the meeting and talked to the members about ongoing VFW issues, especially the importance of increasing VFW memberships. The more members the VFW has, the stronger its voice is when dealing with congress about veteran issues, etc. He also mention the upcoming Chili Cook-off at his Post 9892.

Besides being Post members the following hold positions in department and other veterans’ organizations. Comrade Verville, SVC DPA; Comrade Schrauben, Cdr Post 4, American Legion; Comrade Simms, Secretary FRA 367 and Seam Squirrel PT11; Lee Vatter, CDR FRA 367.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT:Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster: QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as presented and audited. Seconded by Comrade Corbinr, motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT:: Note: Comrade Mike “Big Mike” Best died on Friday, 13 Oct. He has been cremated but no info on what is going to be done with his ashes.

SURGEON'S REPORT:The Dental Outreach was held in Brgy San Isidro, Subic, 23 SEP.. Only dental checkups and instructions on how to brush and oral hygiene were provided per guidance of the local dental association. Free toothbrushes and paste were provided. No extractions done this year. About 200 children showed up, however participation by post members was nil, only the Surgeon and his wife showed up.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS:Ed Spears still at home resting.

PUP TENT 11:: The Seam Squirrel reported (as usual) that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM:Christmas list for sponsors will be up before Nov.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE:Report given by Comrade Verville.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS:Chairman gave the report for SEP visits. 60 members 24 visits, 28 Vets which included 7 home visits, 10 hospital visits and 4 burials, spent 177 hours in visits and travel 2696 miles, Gifts/expenses: $121.52. Total for SEP $4490.31

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN:Buddy Poppy donations were P610 ($12.20). Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

New Business

Motion was made by Comrade Verville to apply for a grant of $300 for Greg Langhan from DPA Emergency Relief Fund. Seconded by Comrade Corbin. Following discussion motion carried.

Motion was made by Comrade Corbin for the approval of P2500 to be used for the FRA bus to the Chili Cook-off in Bauang, La Union. Seconded by Don Robbins, motion carried.

For The Good Of The Order

+- 50/50 was won by Comrade Houle who received P1575 (Donated to Scholarship Kids). Total was P3150.

- Prior to closing the meeting the Cooties of PT11 held a special Scratch, with non-Cooties in attendance to honor a WWII veteran Art Morris. Following a recognition ceremony for his service, Comrade Morris was made a PT11 Cootie.

Suicide Prevention Month is in January.

Mid-term Convention 8-10 DEC in Cebu, Philippines

CLOSING CEREMONIES: The Charter remained draped for departed Comrades, Greg Terry and Ken Mills. Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11.55. The next GMM will be held 8 NOV at 1000 hours.
