VFW Post 11447: Minutes of September 2016 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: Commander Rogers called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 14 SEP 2016. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Twenty-three Post 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: The Roll Call was taken by Adjutant Burnett. Eight Officers were present, 4 absent (3 were excused).

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there were no new recruits.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjutant said that the minutes were posted and put on the website. No changes have been received. Adjutant made the motion for the minutes to be approved as posted. Second by Comrade Corbin. Motion approved.

DISTINGUISHED GUESTS: District 7 CDR JD Keller and Department Senior Vice John Gilbert

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Rowe, motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Comrade Hilliard will have hip surgery on 29 Sep. (Had Successful surgery)

SURGEON'S REPORT: Dental Outreach will be in Olongapo City, Barangay West Bajac-Bajac. The 25 Sep date has been changed and the outreach will be Oct 22.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: NTR

PUP TENT 11: The Hungry Cootie reported that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH. But fun was had by all of the Lousy Coots.

COMMANDER CALLED FOR COMMITTEE REPORTS:

MEMBERSHIP REPORT: QM Burnett gave the report.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE: Work on the bar and sink will commence soon. Because of her dedication and taking care of problems in the canteen as needed, the PHC recommend an award and pay raise for Jessica Fuertes. Approved by PHC members.

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: CDR gave the report for Aug visits. 35 members made 28 visits to see 51 vets, spent 121 hours in visits, traveled 2184 miles, 17.80 in gifts. Total credited for Aug was $3051.91.

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P890 ($19.34)

VFW NATIONAL HOME FOR CHILDREN: Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children.

District CDR Keller addressed the members. Thanking the members for their support in helping District and Department reach their membership gold’s. SVC John Gilbert talked to the members and then gave a report on VFW Mental Health Wellness Campaign, and five signs of vets who may have emotional suffering. They are: Personality change; withdrawal; poor hygiene; risky behavior; and the feeling of hopelessness, Veterans showing these signs should get treatment as soon as possible.

NFL Flags are on sale at the VFW. Prize different this year, 50% will go to the winner of the Super Bowl and 25% to the losing team.

CLOSING CEREMONIES: Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:10. The next GMM will be held 12 Oct at 1000 hours at the Post Home.
