VFW Post 11447: Minutes of September 2017 Meeting

OPENING CEREMONIES: The Commander called the meeting to order at 1000 hours, 13th of SEP 2017. Opening ceremonies were held according to VFW Ritual. Eighteen 11447 members were present.

ROLL CALL OF OFFICERS: Roll call was taken of officers, eleven Officers were present.

NEW RECRUITS: The Commander asked if there were any new recruits. Adjutant said there was one recruit, Howard D. McgGatha, USN, veteran served in Vietnam. Member eceived an honorable discharge and is qualified for membership. Adjuntant made the motion that Comrade McGatha request be approved, seconded by Comrade Corbin, motion carried.

MINUTES: Commander asked if the minutes from the previous meeting had been posted. The Adjuntant said that the minutes were posted and emailed to members. Nocharges were made. Motion was made by the Adjuntant for the minutes to be approved as posted and seconded by Comrade Vatter, Motion approved.

QUARTERMASTER REPORT: Commander called for the report of the Quartermaster:

QM Burnett presented the report and made the motion to accept the report as audited. Seconded by Comrade Vatter, motion carried.

SERVICE OFFICER REPORT: Mike Best is at home but still confined to bed.

SURGEON'S REPORT: The Dental Outreach will be held inBrgy San Isidro, Subic 23 SEP. Only dental checkups, and instructions on hot to brush and oral hygiene will be provided er guidance of the local dental association. Free toothbrushes and paste will be provided. No extractions this year.

COMRADE OR FAMILY MEMBER IN DISTRESS: Ken Mills was buried. Home visits were made to see Comrade Lagan. Mike Besst is at home but still confined to bed. Status odf Ed Spears not known at meeting time, but since the meeting he has been seen in the local area several times.

PUP TENT 11: The Seam Squirrel reported (as usual) that they had a LOUSY SCRATCH. Most of the members present at today's meeting, like last month, were at the Scratch. Discussed the upcoming Chili Cook-off and bus transportation.

POST HOUSE/BUILDING COMMITTEE:Report given by Comrade Verville

HOSPITAL/HOME VISITS BY POST MEMBERS: Chairman gave the report for AUG visits, 30 members, 14 visists which included 1 home visit, 10 hospital visists and 2 burials, spent 121 hours in visits and travel 141 miles, Gifts/expenses: $72.30. Total for AUG $3,009.59

BUDDY POPPY CHAIRMAN: Buddy Poppy donations were P960 ($19.20). Commander asked the Chaplain to say a prayer for our National Home for Children

For The Good Of The Order

Department Commander Gilbert spoke to the Post members. He pushed membership, especially Life Memberships but annual membership is also important but diffucult to renew each year. He said members should show their VFW memberships when inpublic, wer VFW shirts when visiting schools, malls, and other public places. Put up membership recruitment strands at events. A strong national VFW can help to push programs for veterans and active duty personnel.

Department Adjuntant/Deputy Inspector Chaplain inspected the records of the Adjuntant/QM prior to the meeting and the Post passed the inspection. The meeting was also observed for cpmpliance with ritual etc.

+- 50/50 was won by Comrade Houle received P1,575 (Donated to Scholarships Kids). Total was P3,150.

Post 4 American, Legion Olongapo will be hosting POW?MIA Day Sept. 15 at their Post. This is their big fund raiser for the year so maximum VFW attendance will be appreciated. Raffle tickets are available in the Post Canteen in support of Post 4. (NOTE: Good turnout by the VFW).

Mid-term Convention 8-10 DEC in Cebu, Philippines

CLOSING CEREMONIES The Charter remined drapped for departed Comrades, Greg Terry and Ken Mills. Closing Ceremonies were held according to Ritual and the meeting was adjourned at 11:55. The next GMM will be held 11 OCT at 1000 hours.
